DOOM 3: BFG Edition - Disable Censored Content in DOOM 1 & 2

Changes in BFG Edition

In DOOM 3: BFG Edition, the versions of DOOM and DOOM 2 have the following censored changes:
  • Medpacks now have a pill icon as opposed to a red cross (due to complaints from the Red Cross)
  • Modified content for DOOM 2 secret Wolfenstein levels:
    • "Wolfenstein" and "Grosse" map names renamed to "IDKFA" and "Keen"
    • Nazi enemies replaced with Zombiemen
    • Music replaced with the original DOOM 2 theme
    • Missing textures such as swastikas, Hitler portraits and others

How To Uncensor

Performing the fix below will correct these changes, whilst keeping the new features in Doom 3: BFG Edition, such as the improved controls and the inclusion of the "No Rest for The Living" expansion pack in DOOM 2.
  1. Download the Uncensored DOOM Files (.zip file).
  2. Extract the files to a folder somewhere. There should be 2 files named "DOOM.wad" and "DOOM2.wad".
  3. In your Steam Game Library, find the game, right click it and click Properties.
  4. Click the Local files tab.
  5. Click the "Browse local files..." button to open up the game folder.
  6. Open the "base" folder.
  7. Open the "wads" folder. You may want to back up the files in here.
  8. Move the wad files you extracted into this folder and click Yes if prompted to overwrite files.
